Reclaimed wood signs and industrial furniture.
We love to introduce you our talented indie businesses and today we have interviewed Greg from Outhouse. Learn a little bit more about Greg the hands behind the industrial furniture you may have seen instore and the much loved reclaimed wood signs, how he got started with his business and what his plans are for the future.
Please could you tell us a little bit about your business, where you are based and how you started?
Outhouse was born around 6/7 years ago now. Working from the Outhouse in the garden, that’s where the name originated. At the time of starting Outhouse I was working full time for Royal Mail. I bit the bullet in 2017 to rent a proper workshop and before I knew it in December 2018 I had handed in my notice and took on Outhouse as my full time occupation.
Do you specialise in a particular type or style of product?
All of my furniture is made from reclaimed scaffold boards bringing new life to them creating an industrial style. A lot of my smaller gift items are also made from reclaimed wood. I love transforming the wood into a thing of beauty.
What's your favourite part of running a small business?
I love meeting new people and seeing their happy reactions when I deliver their finished furniture. I’ve got to know a lot of like minded small business owners too and I love the community vibe you get off each other.
What is your favourite product in stock at the moment?
It’s a tricky one, as most of our bigger items are made bespoke, The DJ units I’m making are going really well and every single one his slightly different. I’m working on some new Christmas items to stock in the shop so watch this space.
What plans do you have for your business?
At the moment I’m quite content as I am getting a lot of bespoke furniture orders. I’d love to work with some more offices and restaurants in the future as its a great feeling to see the big impact you have when all the items are delivered. A lot of people in my situation have taken on staff and grown massively but currently I like keeping that one to one connection with the customer and it means I can be more flexible if for example we want to shoot off early at the weekend to the lake district or catch the last of the sun and go paddleboarding.
